Time Out - So HR Software fired people?

It explains the randomness and complaints by workers. https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/2023/01/23/layoffs-2023-recession-software-programs/11086842002/ #google #amazon #meta #twitter #oracle #microsoft #apple who is your HRIS? We use Workday here. Prior employer wanted me to agree to PIP in Workday. I refused. Then eventually left. I don’t know how data collection is kept. #workday, #adp, #equifax (TWN), #firstadvantage, #icims, etc. engineers need to chime in here. Is data from your companies used to knock people off?

Your performance should be measurable. That’s why we have KPIs. Those metrics are recorded each quarter and each year. They’re used for assessing annual bonuses and promotions. So if your stats are bad, then yes, you’re going to be the first out the door - right behind the technical recruiter - and you’ll be posting cringe LinkedIn posts about losing access

except "you can't improve what you don't measure, but what you measure becomes the goal" I've never seen a system where any sort of metric was used with strictness and eventually it didn't completely corrupted the whole system. Measure impact = less riskier projects, more small PRs, more Code, extreme tech debt since nobody cares and you can't really show improvement in productivity as good as increase in users, less collaboration (why share my glory), less helping (the better i look relative to team the sooner i get promoted)... all good intentions and all but a wasteland of irony
