Thinking of accepting a new offer in SF for a comp bump - wfh atm. Would it be too unreasonable to ask my employer if I could count the hours on Caltrain towards an 8 hour workday (of course assuming I’ll be working). Else the commute alone would be 2+ hours daily of basically unproductive time. TC: 350K Yoe: 6 Potential new comp: 450K
The volume of hours you work typically isn’t that relevant. If you can be productive on the train just do it and don’t ask. If you have been told they have strict working hours already then I wouldn’t even ask and I’d take a different job
Your title and post question are contradictory. You should clarify which one your poll is asking. I would count commute as my working hours since rto is dumb and I prefer remote work. Since you are actually working on the train, even better
what tech company these days is measuring employees by hours worked instead of work produced…?? yikes to this whole question…
Most
But half the commute you won't have internet connectivity or very disrupted service
Depends on your carrier I guess. Verizon has coverage for far far more than half the route. Also, starting in the Fall, with the new trains, there will be free WiFi as well. Perhaps that will be better!
Free wifi is also just from the same carriers. Aint gonna magically have fiber connectivity on a moving train. Just same ol shitty internet.
no. meaning, don’t ask. just do it. surprised slack has hourly jobs tho
