Hello, I'm on STEM OPT and looking to switch companies. I have upcoming on-site interviews with AMD and Nvidia in the next two weeks. I'm concerned about the timeline close to the H1B filing. How long does it typically take for an attorney to file for the H1B lottery for new hires? I'm on STEM OPT with EAD expiring in July 2025, so can't afford to miss the lottery filing (2nd attempt) because of any sort of confusion. Total Compensation: $170K #hardware #interview #nvidia #mediatek #qualcomm #apple #amd #H1B #2024-#2025
Generally companies finalize everything by the 3rd week of Feb. In this case you can request the company to include you in their filing and collect your data accordingly, as they can always cancel your application should you not join them by april 1. I'm on O1 and am also switching currently from Qualcomm to AMD .... Currently working with AMD attorneys to be included in the lottery
Ah ok. So I am pretty close to the deadline. I think I should talk with the hiring manager/HR on the virtual on-site so that they can also speed up from their end. I am just worried that telling this might back fire my chances.
If the main reason you’re switching companies is H1B then you should definitely talk to them about it. Worst case you stay in your current job.
Thanks for the post. I am in a similar situation and so am following this post.
why switching? did your current firm didn’t file h1 in the first attempt?
Would love to know as well. Im on STEM OPT and hoping for H1B. Btw how long did it take you from applying to the jobs to getting interviews? I just started applying.
It usually took around 2-3 weeks (from the very first response) to reach the virtual onsite stage
