Hello Need some advice. I am looking for opportunities in biotech and currently a senior manager at a saas company and I am applying for a director role in biotech. Are titles offered in biotech or pharma (Genentech, Gilead etc) the same level as any tech SAAS companies (salesforce etc) Example is Director at Genentech same as Director at salesforce? Tia
Is it just me or anyone else misread it as 'Titties' in tech?
It is you..
I think they are for Salesforce and Genentech but it’s not the same across the board. I worked at both of them and they are known for people having to drop title levels. Other Biopharma companies are different just like in smaller tech companies - higher titles for the same job.
It really depends on what you bring to the table. If you have a skill they want they will inflate your title. Note that biotech crowd is generally older, and more experienced -- more # years of experience at each levels especially senior. This is because these roles mostly require PhDs or some advanced degree to understand the product. Do not join these companies to work in the back office or be the IT person. Unless you work in the core product, it will get boring.
Good to know as this role is in G&A
Title in these bio companies are so funny. I spoke to multiple software and senior software engineer who doesn’t know design or coding part. They are from scientific background and changed their role to SWE to get better compensation. Very tough to work these people :(

I am starting to think Chinese interviewers currently fail non-Chinese candidates on purpose.
No.
So a director at Genentech would be a senior manager at Sf or any saas
Senior manager would be an associate director in pharma. A logical jump from comp perspective will be from senior manager in tech —> director in pharma
