I hope this company goes bankrupt. Your silence, and your unwillingness to be transparent to your customers is well heard. Small businesses all around the country are losing money. They need guidance and information to make informed decisions. This is unacceptable. And I hope people get fired for this. I will hard core advocate that customers switch to another platform. Context: Massive nationwide outage that has been almost 5hrs. No communication from Square except that engineers are working on it. No communication on workarounds or offline payments. Small businesses do not know if they should close or wait.

I mean they have a status website. But it’s just a status that there is “downgraded” performance and that engineers are working on it. What small businesses need to know is if this is a 5+ hr issue or a 10 minute issue. We need to know if we should just close, or if there is a workaround. Can we just note card numbers and enter them later? That’s the communication we need. Displaying on a page the obvious is not communication

My understanding is payment processors charge per transaction so why not integrate with multiple payment providers instead of having a single point of failure only integrating with one? Pretty sure there are platforms like shopify that give these payment integrations out the box if it’s too complicated to dev on your own
More context. This is a family restaurant. Our online ordering is through Square. Easiest and cheapest setup at the time. And then at the time it was easiest and cheapest integration into our on prem POS. I have been working on alternatives. But failed to get those alternatives or even backups in time for this massive outage.

Dont the customers have back up systems ? I am not sure how the payment systems work, but don't small businesses have backup systems?
