Background: I joined PayPal 10 months ago it’s my 1st Job in tech. Initial days where overwhelming with lots of new stuff and process. Later after my initial new hire training. I was assigned to a project, which got delayed as it took more time then I expected. Now I have worked on two small projects and completed on time and with less stress. Things I learned: 1) when a new project is given, spend one day 6-7 hours just reading the document for the product. Mark the things which you don’t understand. 2) ask questions to senior folks, explain them what you understood of the problem statement( very important) and is there any gap. Always be vocal about your thoughts so that you are not working in wrong direction. 3) identify the blockers, example you don’t know how to deploy, or some technology you are not comfortable with first but do Google research on that part for at least 1-2 hours before asking. 4)then work on small working model, something like deploy the hello world in that environment you are working. Cuz things get easy when you start from basic building step. 5) then iteratively add the components and code you need. 6) you will have a rough working module or project. Show that to your senior or mentor. 7) ask for is input and improve your code and add test cases. 8) make a target for the day something like I will solve this part today( for example I will have my database connection or will add this thing today) 9) there are some problem in which will be hard for you, time box that problem, give it 3-4 hours. Then ask in the team slack. 10) your initial days are important and I know wfh makes it more tough to reach people. I hope this will help some new folks who have joined in pandemic. YOE: 10 months TC: 130k PS: senior folks can add some tips. #New #tech #entrylevel
