Got a contract offer from eBay. Pay is a little higher than my current TC. Location is San Jose. It is for Java backend. Have heard mixed reviews of eBay’s stability, job security, layoffs etc. I am on H1-B so job security is of importance. How is the future of eBay? Is it stable to stay long term? Let’s say atleast 3 years or so? I want to move out of my current company as the work is boring and coworkers are not that great. Basically the environment in my current team is a bit toxic, lot of talking behind the back etc. On other hand the job is stable for atleast next two years. Current TC: $100k eBay TC: $120k
eBay is stable at the moment, at-least for the near future. I’d say this for FTE but not sure about contract.
Hmmm. According to polls it does not seem to be much stable and definitely if there are any layoffs, contractors will be targeted first.
OP, the demographic on Blind are overachievers and people with higher TC. For your case, eBay is a great company and has more recognition than UBS. It's in good shape financially with a low PE ratio and won't go under in the next few years. Sure, it isn't the sexiest name on the resume which explains the polls but it's a good option for you.
Yes, I totally understand your point that brand value is of no significance and same goes for UBS. So there is not much upgrade happening. The only focus for me right now is to get into some place with decent stability until I get really good at interviews. I am on visa so have that fear. UBS does not look great for future as they have close to 0 hiring in US and heavily hiring in their India office.

Quitting this Slave life
Don't take a contract job for 20k more. Keep looking.
I am ok with small bump. Currently I am looking for a stable company with good job security. I know Job security is nowhere guaranteed.
Dude, in this economic scenario, having a stable job is more important.
