Graduated last September with a degree in math, realized last minute like an idiot that I wanted to pursue software engineering, so Infosys is the only company I could land bc I had no swe experience, didn’t LC, and just needed a job asap. Been here since, grinding LC and learning programming. Just landed a project with Goldman Sachs, and they want me to move to Utah to work on-site. I’m pretty sure pay would be legit like 40-50k, which is obviously trash, and Goldman would probably squeeze every last drop of blood from me as an Infosys employee. But I recently got an offer from Cerner for Kansas City, MO for 120k. Yes, it’s in the middle of nowhere but I think it’s LCOL and also heard it’s a good stepping stone to faang, so might be worth?? Ig my main question is, in my situation, should I quit Infosys after just 6/7 months to join Cerner? Or maybe wait until I get to the year mark and try my luck for companies that can pay 150/200k?? Can I even land those straight from a WITCH, or should I use Cerner as a stepping stone? Cause im gonna be honest, if I do take the Cerner offer I’d only wanna be there for like 1 year max, meaning my resume would consist of Infosys for 7 months and Cerner for 1 year…not sure if faang or other companies would ding me for that sort of thing, but I also heard they give you leniency for your first year. And yes, I already applied to faang and other equivalent companies for new grad but basically got resume rejected by all of them (and I did 450 LC lmao), other than amazon which I got to the final, but ultimately got rejected as well. Hoping that with Cerner on my resume, I’d have a better chance of at least getting an OA/phone?? So should I take it and leave sunny southern CA for Kansas City?? Old TC: $62k New TC: $120k YOE: 6 months
I like your attitude. Cerner sounds like the best place for now and 120K will go pretty far in Kansas. Keep grinding LC on the side and try again, you'll get there eventually.
Appreciate it!
A lot of people I know didn’t have a positive experience with Cerner
It’s not ideal but it does still seem much, much better than WITCH
Definitely go to Cerner. I previously had a consulting gig on my resume and companies like FAANGMULA was simply not interested in even taking a chance on me. I made the switch to Citrix and now getting interviews is the easy part. WITCH will severely hinder your ability to even get a chance to interview.
This. Also nobody cares if you are job hopping while Jr. If anything it shows your are ambitious or motivated, unless you bomb interviews and look like you are getting fired regularly Growth stories are good.
I agree with WarnerMedia - hopping jobs when jr is almost expected. Take the Cerner job but only stay around 1 year.
This is a no brainer, imo. Take cerner and gtfo witch whenever possible. Even cerner you dont have to wait a year. Big companies, for the first couple of years dont really care if you’re a jobbhopper especially at non-faang companies. If a recruiter is reaching out and you pass their bar you’re in
Yeah I just need to be able to get past resume screens and hopefully this will help
What position is this for at cerner? Also, it is in the process of being bought by oracle at the moment.
Kansas City is miserable but take Cerner.
Thanks! Yeah, unfortunately beggars can’t be choosers lol. Hopefully one day I’ll look back at all this and laugh
