I was contacted by recruiter from a cool company for an awesome position. I initially didn’t get the salary range in my first few email exchanges, but found an old job post that contained the salary range and it was lower than expected. I have a call with the recruiter today. How do I approach saying the salary range is lower than expected and I make a little more than the highest number of the salary range posted for the job? TC: 75k YOE: 4 (non dev)
If you are interested in the role, don’t share that you make more. Some companies will go beyond the range but will only do so for exceptional candidates (ie kill the interviews). At this stage you’ll be screened out if you say you want more than the range. Ask the range and be noncommittal if the recruiter asks if you are ok with that - “that’s in the ballpark of what I was thinking. I’m very interested in the role”
How old was the post?
