Total Comp?

I recently just received an offer from Verizon for the new grad full stack software engineer position in Dallas, TX. In the pre-screening, the hiring manager told me that the base salary is $87k. He also mentioned that there would be some stock added on top of that, but couldn’t give me an exact amount or even an estimate. When I got my verbal offer, he said he made a mistake and the base salary is actually $74k. He still wouldn’t tell me the exact stock amount and is also unsure if there is a sign on bonus. I know I am a new grad and I really shouldn’t be complaining, especially considering how bad the market is now. But I found this odd, and the salary is pretty low considering it’s Verizon. I couldn’t find any new grad salaries listed on levels… I have an offer from another company that totals to about $105k. But it would be away from home. Compared to Verizon, where I can just live with my parents. And they would also pay for my masters. Is the Verizon offer worth it? Or if there are any Verizon software engineers who worked there as new grads, does the salary he mentioned seem about right? #verizon #softwaredevelopersalary #swe #salarynegotiation #salarycomparison #salary #salaries

This is a shit offer, take 105k or accept the offer but keep interviewing.

About 10-12% bonus and less than 10k in stock. So $87k number was probably your total comp. Manager sounds like a doofus.

Yes, verizon gives shit offers now due to saturated market in wireless. It hasn't bought one successful company in a long time and continues to make poor investments. The salary offer now was good before inflation. I started 65k with 10 percent bonus which the company meets almost every year and 5k rsu, relatively peanuts now since they don't grow like other companies, other than provide dividends. It doesn't grow like tmobile. Since you mentioned living with parents, that is a good scenario. please consider you wealth building power such as minimizing expenses to invest in house, max out 401k or roth ira. If you're ballsy and want to try out the 105k offer, be prepared for being adult and manage more expenses. You might get lucky if network with right people and hit big like dell, broadcome, nvidia and Microsoft.

Negotiate more since you have another offer. Likely 10% raise and 3-5k in stock.
