My manager is the " Golden Child" of our VP and he is one of the most disrespectful /impulsive/erratic person I've met in my career . Unfortunately, no one under his reporting structure can go to HR or skip level or VP as it's like a friends group at the top . It is so unfortunate to see such behavior not get flagged but also unfortunate that I/my peers have to live with it on a daily basis. As most of the roles open in FB are under that VP, I'm thinking of leaving the company ? This is affecting my mental peace - I'm not in a good mental place because of him
I was in a similar situation at a previous company. My skip level and my direct manager were both out to get me. I found another job and quit but before I left, my skip's manager fired him. Made me think I should have gone further up and discussed these problems instead of giving up and quitting
If you move from under your manager, it won’t matter if you are still under the same VP.
OP, can you cite specific examples of his problematic behavior? Sounds like this is not a perception issue.
All his reports talk about how erratic he is on a side chat but no one has the guts to stand up (including me) and tell him that this behavior is not acceptable. He reminds us in meetings how well we & our teams get paid and how we are NOT worth that comp :( . It is pretty pathetic to hear such things
The more you do software engineering at large companies, the more you realize the asymmetry in management vs actual producers. Name and shame anonymously, on blind, glassdoor, internal anonymous chats. Let that person and VP hear from grapevine that this manager is not doing their job well.
If they said it in chat, you can SS and send it to HR.
HRBP wont do anything - they are best buddies
Yes, it's more for CYA. You're leaving a paper trail that you've done your part.
Can you give example of behavior OP?
Join Bytedance. Wlb not guaranteed but collaborative meritocracy without toxicity/cliques is. Coming from FB you’ll probably get a 20%+ TC bump too
Is 20% enough for 996?
I work 8-10 hours and could get away with less, 370k TC It really just depends on team and location I think. I’m not in ads/monetization so yea
Name and shame on our internal blind and try to change teams
Which internal blind ? Do we have a Confidential one within FB too ?
Yeah that’s how Blind works. There’s the private section that only your coworkers can access.
