I have a Senior SDE interview at Datadog (initial coding interview via Zoom). Any suggestions for what I need to study? Recruiter said “Leetcode easy”, but I don’t have any algorithmic engineering experience, so I don’t want to under prepare. Thanks! You don't have any algorithmic engineering experience yet you have an interview for senior dev role?
I’ve got many SDE friends who say they haven’t needed those skills in years and would fail a similar assessment. And in my current job, those skills have definitely not been required to develop our APIs. So I might suggest that you not be so quick to judge.
Please list the various engineering roles where you would need palpable algorithmic engineering experience on a day-to-day basis.
I would buy Grokking the Coding Interview and work through a few problems from each section
I don't think any company provides algorithm experience so I think you're in the same boat as most folks. People here go through leetcode to practice their Algo skills assuming they have a foundation for Algo and DS. If you're someone who knows what algo and Data structures are then there are many resources for you out there to brush up your skills, I would suggest leetcode or neetcode.io (you can find a curated list from leetcode that are commonly asked). Most people can get by with just that. Leetcode provides company tagged questions so you might find that useful too. If you don't know what Algos and DS are then you might need to provide more info on what role you're interviewing for at datadog. I think it's assumed that you would be good at Algo and DS if you're interviewing for a senior swe position. Simply saying leetcode easy is too broad a statement.
Which level in dataDog?
Leet code easy is the best way, don’t overthink beyond that. Questions aren’t like brain teasers or anything. Ask your recruiter for any prep docs if you haven’t gotten any yet (they might be attached to your interview confirmation).
