I’m planning to move my assets from Robinhood to Fidelity. I have stocks as well as Crypto in my Robinhood but i just want to transfer the stocks. If i initiate the transfer via fidelity will they also liquidate my crypto? Or will they just move the stocks?
You can initiate a ACATS transfer request from Fidelity and also specify the number of stocks you want to transfer. It’s pretty straight forward
Do they also keep track of the cost basis or does that get lost?
Cost basis gets transferred, although it can take a couple of extra days for that info to get transferred even though the stocks are already at the new place.
I just initiated a transfer on the Fidelity side last week. First, stocks don’t have to be liquidated to be transferred. Second, yes, you get to choose what you want to transfer - either the whole account or parts of it. The only complication in the process is if the names on the accounts are different. Then you have to jump through hoops to prove they’re both yours.
Thanks! And does fidelity reimburse the transfer fee?
What transfer fee?
Bottom line, you should call Fidelity and ask them all of these questions. You’ll get them answered plus they are very nice about helping you start the transfer. One of the reasons why I’m consolidating there.
Not sure about crypto but stocks can be moved easily without liquidating
Can i get to choose which stocks i want to transfer?
Yes, you can choose whether it’s a full account transfer or only partial.
