Currently working in Compliance in SAP. career has gotten stagnant and i want to make over 200k over the next few years. Background: Accounting degree but after college just moved into SAP security then audit and then compliance. TC: 98,000 Turned 30 and decided i want career growth and chose to switch to SWE. In the last month i have finished the Harvard CS50 course and now learning python Plan to learn Javascript and HTML after and i will build some bots as projects for myself. Can anyone recommend next steps/guidance, i am aware that self taught is the hardest route but i do have the discipline to do it. I assume it will take me around 6 months to a year to learn the skills i need. Anyone have experience on switching into SWE job? I have 7 years of IT related experience already so I'm hoping this will be valuable in trying to land that first job #software #swe #engineering
I see a post every day with someone from a non-STEM background trying to switch into SWE. Only a few of you will truly make it. The rest will suffer with the same TC with enormous amounts of self study and LC problems on top of that. The switch is not for the faint hearted and be prepared for major disappointment. Iβve seen people with STEM degrees make the same pay as you in SWE so good luck!
Thanks you! i know it's not going to be easy and luckily i do have a good current path down my career and i can probably make 150-200k in the next 10 years but that's the ceiling. I know with SWE the ceiling is much higher so that's my main reason for making the attempt. I did self teach into 2 of my jobs where i just read books and knew the topics well enough to get the jobs so i hope i'm able to do the same with SWE. Sadly most people don't actually put in the work and end up giving up, i am giving myself 2 years to learn as much as possible but hopefully going to get some certs and try for some entry level jobs to break in if necessary.

Ever heard of Automation Anywhere? That might be right up your alley
My current company does use something similar to do RPA. It's definitely interesting i'll look into the salaries to see if its worth going into.
