Tripactions Sr. Software Engineer comp

Aug 14, 2019 21 Comments

Recruiter is quoting $200K base with no bonus and only $20K per year in equity at $4 per share. Seems like a looooow ball offer.

Anyone that work there care to comment on whether the base or equity can go up, and if so by how much?

Also, what are the chances of the company having a big exit in the near future?

Looks like you are an engineer that knows how to use a 💰emoji while changing blind username.

Any chance of an exit in the near future? If they are still giving stock options, is it safe to assume the exit is long way?

Dude u r comparing apples and oranges. TripActions has seen a growth just in 4 years and if you don't believe in the growth why to even start this comp thread or even interview if you are satisfied by the money google is giving you

We joined TripActions not only because of its evaluation but also because of the Leadership team. Do you even know where Meagan our CMO comes from ? Have you seen Rich's profile. and not to forget the VP of Engineering is from Google

so 20k is not the dollar value, its the quantity of the stock.. Its always advisable to do your homework on how RSU are different from Stock options before starting your interview process with any start up in Bay area.. For what i can see..its a good amount of stock options given the current evaluation of $4 Billions

Ah okay. Maybe I misunderstood or misheard what the recruiter said. If it is 20K stocks, how much is it worth in dollars at their current valuation? Does the value of my stocks double if the valuation of the company doubles by exit time, or will the value be lower due to future dilution?

Seems like standard sr software eng package. From what I heard, equity is non negotiable but base could move up a bit. You're already on the high end though. Huge potential for a big exit in the next couple years

This is very middle of the pack for sr backend SWE role in the Bay area. Yet, I'm only referring to salary. TC in comparison is very low factoring in bonus and options. All in all, TA is lowballing.

That's the valuation, not the strike price (the price you would buy them for). Both numbers are crucial to know the potential returns.

I joined TripActions and took a pay cut on my base because of the stock options they were offering. Its definitely better than Doordash, slack or square

Ofcourse man.. sorry but you doesn't seem to be a guy made for startups.. How do you think startups operate ? People make millions with startups and TripActions is a unicorn. I am eagerly waiting for its exit because we know with our growth trajectory its gonna be massive 💰 for everyone at TA
