I've heard it's mostly bad to apply jobs through them if they aren't internal recruiters. Any experience or thoughts on this? Looks like they always have these "amazing" opportunities
I call 3rd party recruiters “headhunters” and company internal recruiters “recruiters”. Recruiters are garbage 7/10 times. Headhunters are garbage 11/10 times.
I have had really great success with head hunters in senior roles. Internal recruiters in my experience have been junior and they often don’t really know what I am talking about since they are generalists and filling all the roles at a company (for example when I was interviewing at series a-e companies). Now that I have more experience I’ve talked to some senior head hunters who have been in the industry a long time. Got some great advice on getting my LinkedIn profile up to date and focused for the role I wanted. Ended up with a lot of really great senior level opportunities at good companies. The “headhunter” has personal connections at each of the companies and was able to give me great insights. I think it depends on the person, and I don’t think you can say any group is all the same.

Recruiters are all the same, and they don’t have your best interest in mind.
