I haven't talked to any Twitch software engineers. Do they hire much? Is it as cool a place to work as it would seem?
They get free food and unlimited vacations. They have some challenges, trying to grow in cool ways, but it's still interesting work. Some intense executives can make everyone day bad though.
I've heard good things recently, as for being part of Amazon I have heard they operate pretty independently although have a close relationship with the AWS team.
We mostly operate independently.
We operate mostly independent from Amazon. That's changing. Leadership is getting pressure from Amazon side to start growing again. Unfortunate mid-management and above almost everywhere. Really poor product management. They all defer to the CEO instead of fighting for what is right for the user. On the engineering side, I see very few strong engineers (see also: the front page takes almost 20 seconds to load). Mostly gamers that want a paycheck and to make dank memes all day. Really nice people though!
Yea, our site is incredibly slow thanks to leadership making decisions that caused most of our best engineers to quit, and then refusing to let the remaining engineers work on what matters. Then, of course, we spent a ton of time on a moonshot pretending it would solve all of our problems.
Twitch, that Amazon company? After more than 2 yrs of acquisition, Do you expect anything different than Amazon culture?
lol, idk, I thought acquired companies didn't always become the same as the parent. Twitch is still in SF whereas Amazon is in Seattle if I'm not mistaken
