Twitter unlimited vacation policy, how's the culture?

I got a job offer from Twitter and I'm considering taking it. My biggest concern is the unlimited vacation policy. Anyone from Twitter here can tell me how it's implemented? How many days is considered normal?

There is no approval form or anything. You don’t even need to Ask your manager. You tell them, hey I’m gonna be gone for 3 weeks, don’t email me I won’t respond . Peace

It is great by average 1 month per year is very common

Depends on the person. My manager takes more than 20 days off, but some of our team members doesn't take more than 10 days off per year

I don't quite understand why unlimited vacation policy is a concern :) In my opinion, it's mature of a company to understand that employees are more productive when they're happy, and that they can be trusted to take time off when appropriate. For me personally, the policy is great. I usually take one and a half month off and never have I faced any push-back from my manager or anyone else on the team. There are people who take more than that and those that take less. It's very flexible and something I value

I am curious on what make you consider the choice? I am in the boat with having offer from Google and Twitter and deciding which one to choose.

One manager told me he usually doesn’t care about 3.5 - 4 weeks

I think I average about a month per year? I purposely don't track it and neither does manager. IME (in engineering) time off is broadly encouraged. WFH, sick, personal days, contractor-is-coming-over, etc tend to be more ad-hoc with little notice - e.g. in slack first thing in the morning "FYI all I just realized my kid has an early day so I'll be out. Ping if you need anything" Vacations vary - 3 weeks isn't uncommon but 1 week chunks I see most frequently. Usually at least a week to a month's notice and I've never once seen it questioned or asked for shifted dates. FTR I'm extremely skeptical of the benefit to employees of having such a (non-)policy, but the IC culture seems to allow it to work well
