Heard from multiple sources that Twitter has trouble with ad delivery and called staff back to fix them... Is that true?
Hearing it too makes it true? Since the layoffs don’t even go into effect until January 4th, who exactly is getting called back?
I’ve heard this is a topic on Twitter Blind. I guess we won’t know for sure until someone confirms it.
Impacted emps lost all access already. They can legally blackmail Musk at this point. Confirmed with multiple Twitter employees it’s very true.
No one should go back ..
As a matter of principle you’re right, but imagine how difficult it is for laid off workers in this economy. I won’t judge them if some return. Fk Elon.
The people can fix the issues probably are seniors, they can get better jobs
My son Elon knows nothing about how software work in scale, that's also why Tesla always goes out of control and hit the wall.
Good point VMware, because large scale system design hasn’t changed at all in the last 25 years..
X.com contributed very little to PayPal (That was Confinity) and likewise, neither did Musk
A bunch of employees are still getting paid till January… so would refusing the demand to come back be considered job abandonment and grounds for getting rid of severence?
They can come back. But if I were them, I will sit in cafe the entire day, fix nothing, and wait for my extended contract to end.
Yes in that case you broke the bridge and the employee can just say “it’s too difficult for me and I don’t know how to fix”. Because Musk have no proof the bugs are caused by the layoff employees, so Twitter now have no legal grounds to force anyone to do anything. Great time to blackmail Musk
So… just from my past Tesla layoff experience in 2018, yes it’s 💯 % possible recruitment will start in parallel and look for talent in other departments… Tesla 2018 layoffs were the same .. some positions were quite easy to be hired cross departments.. like Product to project management if skills match I’m sure Tesla folks at Twitter will help make that happen so they will retain as many twitter folks so less training and more hit the ground running so to speak . If they are up for it But, there is a big BUT, as soon as you are laid off, you psyche will change and your interests at least for some days will be bland and wanting to not join right away .. seeing all your coworkers gone it’ll be extremely stressful to join back.. only brave souls and single folks will somehow manage I’ve seen lot of families at Tesla move, cos it’s not the individual it’s the family you are laying off ….
You can sue company if they say layoffs and hire again for same position. Labor is protected for such abuse
Yes, but the legal system is slow and takes hella time. Look at DT.
If this was true I would not want to work for stupid leaders with so poor understanding of things. Most likely is fake. Also if this was true would mean Twitter code was written with the ass
!?!?!?!! Why do you work Intel ur gpus are crap
I don't work in GPU's MF
Some critical infrastructure teams have been decimated to the point where nobody is left to carry the pager. Many of the engineering systems at Twitter are vast and highly bespoke and not well documented. So onboarding new staff to be knowledgeable enough to be able to effectively deal with emergencies takes six months to a year. And that's assuming the best of circumstances with lots of people around eager and willing to pass on institutional knowledge. As I read the situation, we're just a series of small compounding glitches away from a site outage.
Lol, this is going to be fun to watch
They obviously don’t follow the AWS principle. This will need cultural change where every engineer/oncall can be swapped out.
First hand knowledge. It is true. How is it possible to not break the ad system when you layoff 80% of ads engs in the same day.
I hope that people who are called back demand 50% more salary to come back and sign an exit deal
Lol answer is “fuck no”
Is this because he laid off those that wrote least lines code and now realized he needed the security engineers back 🤡
ROFL I laughed so hard on your comment. 🤣
To be fair, it will probably take time for the loss of security engineers to show an adverse effect, but for sure it will be severe.
not just ad delivery... multiple features are broken internally, firing was ad-hoc for many features, and POCs that could root cause and fix multiple problems have gone along with advertiser money and trust. building features in 84 hours is not sustainable at Twitter scale.
It always amazes me when a company with such access to human intelligence and resources... messes up this badly...
