Hello Blind. I have two Onsites scheduled in next 2-3 weeks from VMware and Oracle OCI. I have a new grad offer from Amazon. I recently got rejected from Amazon (SDE 1) onsite after a decent performance (solved coding questions and did decent in design). This has brought my confidence a bit down. Help me with any advice you can. My algo prep level is decent with 170+ LC and internship experiences. Profile : MS student graduating in May 2020. Internship at VMware.
Most important before interview day is to sleep and rest. If u don't have enough sleep all your preparation is nothing. On interview day before u leave do a LC easy/medium and "beat the hell" out of it to get ur confidence up. At interview site before u go in, power pose for a couple of minutes. Look up your interviewers on LinkedIn to gauge how technical they are. Just so u r prepared and not talking deep technical detail with a PM, and visa versa. Obviously continue doing LC and for VMware/OCI, I'd not waste time with LC hards. If your interview will include system design, don't overlook that and prepare for it. And since u already passed an amz, I'd guess u have prepared well for behaviour questions. If not, take the time to write down at least 10 stories from ur life that will fit those amz behaviour questions. Then u can repackage them based on what question is asked. But don't wing it. Lastly congratulations and best of luck.
Thank you for the advice! These are great tips!!
"I have a new grad offer from Amazon. I recently got rejected from Amazon (SDE 1) onsite after a decent performance" Wait, what? Did you get an offer or not?
@Mirrage SDE1 and new grad are different positions. New grad position doesn't include an on-site just virtual interviews.
Interesting. So, you're not an SDE I as a new grad? What title do they give you?
Does “new grad” essentially mean it’s an intern-like position? At the end of X months you either get sde1 offer or not?
Vmware asks atleast one DP. OCI in bay area is piece of cake for you with your prep.
Just try to give your best without giving up even if you don’t know. That will bring everything in a place to crack it.
Do you have any specific questions fam? If not, stay calm, it’s just an interview, plenty of other companies out there. Lot of times they value your social skills(explanations and vocalizing your thought process) just as much as being able to get the right answer. If it’s meant to be, it’ll be :)
Thank you!
