(posting for a friend who doesn't have blind) Hey, I have a new grad friend who received and is considering a SWE L1 offer from Two Sigma (alongside fb/g + series b/c startups for context). I've read a bit about the learning/culture/WLB on blind and how some of the work might look across teams, so I'm mainly curious to learn more about the following: 1. project ownership opportunities for new grads 2. L1->L2->L3 promo timelines and comp growth as well as your satisfaction overall if you joined as a new grad/what sort of companies you were comparing to. Any information or advice from any current or previous SWEs at Two Sigma is greatly appreciated, thanks! Their TC: 0 YOE: 0 Offer TC: 250 My TC: 180 YOE: 0
I hear FAANG pays better after a few years, but WLB is god tier.
1) ownership opportunities aren't great because the firm is growing very slowly. It's hard to find greenfield projects that aren't dominated by long-tenured people. 2) promo timelines are getting longer and we use a committee process like Google's for all promotions, even at junior levels. Raises are something like 20% for good performance and levels.fyi numbers look accurate.
Thanks for the input!!

Breakdown of offer tc? Including signing bonus or no?
Hey, it's 250k recurring + 50k sign on/reloc!
Great place to spend your first 2-3 years as the infrastructure is solid, but also not complete and abstracted away like in FANG, so you get a better grasp of architecture and system design than you would at FANG, and without any of the instability or lack of mentorship in a startup. However, I’m not too happy about the senior comp and level growth. So I’d not advocate spending your life here. But oh yes, definitely pick TS over FANG for your first few years.
Thank you for the advice + info!
Do they like gambling/finance culture? If yes, it's a good experience. If no, a SV style company may be a better fit. I never worked there, but I know a few that did, they left after a few years and returned to FANG.
lol gambling culture. isn't the point of quant funds is it's not gambling?
No. Probability is gambling, gambling is probability.
