I know Two Sigma is scheduled to return to office after new year on a hybrid model. Do people feel confident about it or is it still uncertain and up in the air given the current number of covid cases ? Especially in London ? Also, bit of a tangent : before Covid, how hard was it to work remotely for a couple of weeks at 2S ? Say you’re located in NYC and wanted to go back to your home country outside of PTO time, was that strictly prohibited or was it okay as long as your manager was on board ? Any answers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks !! YOE : 3 TC : 200 #remote
Where are you located?
London
It's a game of brinkmanship, but I think full remote will be allowed in some form (we're unlikely to fire people who won't return to the office). Occasional remote work was allowed before the pandemic (but do clear it with your manager).
Makes sense, are the employees currently pushing for extending the remote past Jan ?
Some people have formally asked for permanent remote
Are you currently interviewing? If so which position?
Based on little evidence, just hunches and comments, I suspect that January RTO in NYC is still somewhat up in the air, or enforcement will be flexible. No idea on other offices, but I don’t think anyone is required in office until NYC is back. Before, daily attendance was basically mandatory — anything more than a day or two of WFH was rare. My manager has indicated a lot of flexibility if/when we do return.
If I may ask, what type of flexibility ? Ability to stay fully remote for some given weeks ?
I specifically discussed that case with my manager (wanting to work remotely for a specific set of weeks), and my manager said that I shouldn’t worry about it.
