NY - Malta, Principal Engr Salary
Hi, Considering a principal Engineer position in Globalfoundries Malta, NY but the base salary is 120k. For full TC I still have to negotiate. Trying to get an idea what is ballpark for such position in Malta (NY) and is GF a good employer? It's Malta not the NY City. Idk much about NY City but is this still low base? I can negotiate TC with rsu and relocation funds.
I was there several years ago. Malta is a town located north of New York City. It takes approximately three hours to drive to the city from there. Winters in Malta can be long, but spring is a beautiful season to appreciate. The people in Malta are generally kinder than those on the West Coast, but finding employment outside of GlobalFoundries, a major employer in the area, can be challenging
What is a good base salary ballpark for GF and is Malta significantly cheaper than NY City?
My husband worked for GF, and he was not in SE. So no idea.. The rent for the new 2-bedroom apartment was approximately $1,500 per month. Personally, I prefer to live somewhere quiet and peaceful, so I enjoyed living in Clifton Park, which is close to Malta. There are good schools in the area.
Renting is pretty cheap there, col otherwise not so cheap. 120k is good for the area, if not great. Lived in the area for sometime , DM for more details. Depends where you are moving from and if you want to live there for a while.
PhD does not count directly as experience. But, you would usually get a grade up than a Masters fresher when you join.

GF as a employer are not the best in industry. Also the town is very flat. There is nothing to do for 8-9 months. 120k is average for PhD candidate. There are times where bachelors and masters NCG have more base pay than senior-principal. All those employees have eventually walked out. Even if you take this job you have to keep on looking for other job.
did you take the offer? 120k for 2 yoe is good for GF. find a new company if you need a higher pay. your salary will stay the same here unless you walk out.

Insane low-ball new grads get more than that, esp for NYC I wouldn't take it

Still insanely low for principal level, Anything less than 180k base is unfair for your level imo
