Does anyone use the Original Cabin sized from Rimowa? How heavy does it feel? The original is 9.5lbs while their essential lite is 4.5lbs. Comparable samsonite that lasted me 8 years is 6.5lbs. The original is $1430 while the essential lite is $740. I want the original one for the looks and the aluminum material but not sure if it will be too heavy.
Agree i have the Rimowa Lite. Leaves a lot to be desired. Single handle bar is not practical when the suitcase is full, you really need the side handle too, which is not there. Inside the suitcase you can zip both sides but depending on what kind of packer you are, the mesh screens are not flexible at all, any kind of “stuffing” may rip the mesh and the customer service is not great. I was surprised it was not life time warranty given the cost of these suitcases. Would not recommend a Rimowa for practical travelers who wanted a nicer kit.
I have the rimowa hybrid cabin s, and it fits all airlines, not as heavy as pure aluminum, looks good and has more quality than the lite one.
A 9.5 lb cabin luggage is simply unacceptable. Many airlines have a 15 lb limit. You only get a payload of 5 pounds. Get the 4.5 lb one or buy from a cheaper brand.
TL;DR - get Briggs and Riley Just shopped luggage. Rimowa looks nice, but the original is too big for Delta (14” wide), Air Canada (21.5” tall) and European air lines. Once you have to check it, the aluminum it will no longer look nice. In the airports I typically only see weekenders with aluminum, not business travellers. Essential Lite Cabin U fits, but the single bar handle is trash. Briggs and Riley Sympatico 21 fits and has an unbeatable warranty. You’ve already given up aluminum either way, function over form.
True. Won’t samsonite freedom be the best for value then? I had the Omni and it lasted me 8 years. Looks like high end aluminum Rimowa is designed for those that travel private
