Do Tech leads make more than Engineering Manager?
TC £33k Currently have around 1.5y xp, working remotely for an Irish startup with an office in London. Mostly working with JavaScript/nodejs and Salesforce. Don't have a uni degree, don't need any visas. What's the UK/London market like currently? Would it make sense for me to do more leetcode and try to apply to tier 1 / faang in a few months, or just target a 45-50k job and try tier 1 with a few years of xp? Thanks in advance.
Thoughts in no particular order: * 33K is low for london even for a junior - you should be aiming well above that range with 1.5y experience * The market is tough right now for people on the less-experienced end of the spectrum. I (engineering manager) am getting multiple warm referrals a week for people in your ballpark of experience - referred from companies with no junior or mid level roles available. * Nobody here can truly answer what makes more sense for you re: FAANG or not given the information provided - certainly there do exist people who have your YOE and educational background who _have_ gotten into FAANG * but if you have to ask, the answer might be no :-)
