UK salaries in ASIC design with 15+ YOE?
15+ YOE in the area of ASIC design all in the SF Bay area. I'm a US citizen and now wife and I (no kids) exploring the option of moving to UK. What are the salaries for someone with my experience in ASIC design say at a company like ARM ? How much can we expect to save each year (assuming modest living) ?
It really depends, ARM UK folk are quite hubristic, you could get Sr Principal or get offered Staff depending on who is doing the hiring, they generally value computer architecture skills over raw HW skills especially if it is more focused on back-end, since ARM doesn't implement anything. If you have a lot of capital with you can get a decent home in the UK but do look at how six figure salaries are taxed, Uncle Sam will also want his cut too.
ARM would be 100k to 170k depending on grade (plus same in RSUs) Property near Cambridge is 300k-1M. Aim to spend ~50k after tax if you're careful. YOE doesn't count for much on its own though.
So TC can be 200k to 340k. Are those numbers in USD or pounds?
In the UK half your wealth above £120k goes to the crown and it will be a miracle if your new TC be in any way comparable to your TC in the US
