How is this not controlled by the government? For god’s sake I have seen entry level tech positions being filled up by H1Bs, on top of that we are firing people here and hiring offshore. This is ridiculous. Don’t come at me about H1B. I am not against it, but pick and choose god damn it. This also affects immigrants. Look at the job market, the job opening numbers are bullshit. We are going to eventually face high unemployment rate. Funny thing is, before I was also laid off they made me hire about 10 people offshore. Sorry about my rant, im just frustrated!!! Edit: People keep bringing up high TC. The majority of people in engineering do not make that much. Stop bringing up unicorn salaries of some states like California and Washington. The majority of people make 100k-200k, while the higher end is an overreach. There are a lot more companies than amazon, google, meta and whatever else. No way does this profit the government in the long run. They are starting to loose their middle class when not regulating mass layoffs only to be replaced with offshore hiring. And we know pretty well that middle class carries the majority of the tax burden.

Which company did it happen? I mean your hiring of 10 people offshore?
A 200-300 people startup, that im not going to mention here
Salesforce is doing it right now from what I understand. Most likely every company in Silicon Valley will do this to some extent. If they don't lay people off, they will atleast reduce hiring.
Because they’ve been doing it to blue collar workers for the past 30 years and no one did anything about it?
I mean.. it's harder to hire quality H1B's now because they don't get selected in the lottery, they're being hired in their home countries now. Offshoring has traditionally been to hire low quality engineers but now they're being used to hire higher quality engineers.
Infosys, who made you the authority on quality?
It's a basic cost equation only. Nothing to do with quality. You have good as well as "doesn't give shit" engineers on both sides. VPs find it easier to show their cost break up if they hire more but Payless. Even India is outsourcing to Vietnam and Bangladesh.
I don’t blame the companies here. Companies are doing EXACTLY what a company should do, maximize profits. The only group to blame is the Gov creating the wage bubble across the market.
Yup, I am blaming the Gov. How do we start a petition on this? 🤔
Capitalism working as designed.
Yep, the hypocrisy of “Buy American”. These American companies we are so proud of are taking any excuse they can to replace American workers with AI or offshored talent. We use a tool at my work for privacy called OneTrust. It seems they fired all their US support staff and only have Indians working it now. They will only meet us in India Standard Time. Otherwise their English is so bad they basically just post templates at you and are incapable of operating outside the template. They may as well offer no support by how bad this outsourcing has made it.
I quit buying HP products when they moved to this support model 20 years ago.
I quit buying HP products because the ink is more expensive than the printers lol
White people and their unending need for privilege. Just buckle up and get in the competition
Make them all RTO.
?? RTO is old news. Google Hyderabad offices are plenty full and growing fast. https://m.timesofindia.com/city/hyderabad/googles-largest-campus-after-us-gets-off-the-ground-in-hyderabad/articleshow/91164687.cms
Why would you blame the government though? This is just capitalism at work, you can't have it both ways. Socialist countries have no high tech companies hence no outsourcing.
You mean lets strip all workers living in america out of jobs, and make other countries rich. Yup great. Outsourcing does in fact happen in other countries too, its just not as much, because there is no point in outsourcing when there is not much of a difference in salaries
Yes because the only economic systems are capitalist and socialist. And there is nothing anti-capitalist about the government regulating businesses that ship jobs over seas, or punishing them for it. That’s exactly what Adam Smith advocated for. Please read an introductory economics book.
It’s a free market. Stop whining and start leetcoding.
Namby, leetcode is not the problem. There are no or very few job opening. But once you are out of job, looking for 10+ months and running out of money then we can re have this conversation!
I was in the same boat last year. Life is hard for everyone. I’m tired of people who are begging for sympathy online. This is the system that Americans love and vote for time and again.
You need a hug!
I do😭
For real. Bunch of people that probably acted smug about manufacturing layoffs.
