After reading few posts on blind it seems, to do MS in the US and then doing a job is better than Internal Transfers. Seems like Internal Transfers (especially in amazon) come with their own sets of issues like comparatively low pay and more work. Can someone please confirm if this is true and also elaborate on the difference between these two. 1. Internal Transfer from India to the US 2. Doing MS and then doing a job there. Also are there any restrictions on changing jobs in the US? I have got no idea how all these things work as I am a new grad from a relatively new college (hence haven't got seniors who can advise on this). So please help. TC of current New Grad offer in India: 18.5 LPA. #software #swe #amazon #amazonaws #microsoft #google #apple #facebook #india #compensation #wlb #uber #airbnb #netflix #lyft #snap #stripe #snowflake #nutanix #linkedin
In general, if you have < 3 YOE in India, go for MS in US, else try for internal transfer. YMMV
Thanks
What's the reasoning behind this?
How did you get such TC being from a relatively new college?
Guys from new IITs and IIITs can get this TC with some hard work.
He said new collegw without any seniors to advice him. Hence asked🤷🏼♂️
You (usually) only get your Master's once. Work a few years, it'll help you figure out what kind of work you like and take that direction during your degree. But from the post it looks like you just want to go to US, so that's a different story
FAANG equivalent will pay you according to US band (based on your ratings & time at your level). No distinction at the perf / appraisal time. You will transfer using L1b, so you won't be able to switch companies. However FAANG will kickstart your GC process for which they will get you to H1B. Post H1b you can switch. There is lot of SWE demand in US due to which its a straightforward process in most FAANG to relocate to India.
Also if you intend to do MS to eventually end in SWE job then might as well join now and skip the expensive step (MS). Inside the company no one gives a fuck about MS.
Thanks a lot

You will also be losing pay and racking up debt in those 2 years that will take you another year minimum to pay off. Hopefully you have figured that into your calculation.
