How does taxation work if a citizen relocate to India? Do they need to pay taxes in both countries?
You will have to pay tax
Not sure about any tax treaties, but foreign earned income exclusion means your first ~$100k/yr will not be taxed by US gov
You deduct all the taxes that you pay to India and then pay remaining to the us government.
there is double taxation agreement between US and India. But that does mean that you will pay taxes in India and remaining in US.
Uncle Sam will make sure to get his cut
Haha get rekt. Welcome to the citizenship based taxation world
Are you moving to India on a visa? AFAIK you cannot have dual citizenship, right?
OCI I guess
What’s your legal status and how long will you be in india - if you are on visa then if you go now you willl be a non resident for usa and pay taxes for what you earned in usa
If he is a US Citizen he will always be a resident for tax purposes in the US
I think they have a treaty to prevent it?
