US life seems amazing from friends' Insta posts

I see my pals on Mustang and Tesla, getting iphones for their parents, going to national parks and posing on their car just a month after they set foot in the US. Sounds like an amazing life. Is it still a good option to do a masters in the US? I am really done with the long working hours in India. I also here some unpleasant things about H1B too TC 46 LPA (Indian rupees)

I can never even think of getting a nice car here. They are all really expensive

Your friend with mustang and tesla, buy those car with five year auto loan. Let’s say your net income is 30L per year. Cant you buy luxury car now? Grass is always greener on the other side

Unless your established, the car they buy is on finance, the iPhone is on the credit card

Yes. Life is amazing if you’re single here. Boy wait until you have a kid here.

It is
for those that have a stable job with high TC My ex bf (Indian) would pose with his Audi. He was living with 6 other guys in a 3 bedroom apt. His salary? 80k. The job openings are scarce specially for recent grads. Don’t waste money and time with a degree. Try Canada. Edit: Don’t forget that once you come here, all your family will want you to share the “wealth”. Canada is expensive but way easier to get permanent residence there.

You made sense till i read Try Canada đŸ€ŻđŸ˜‚ Canada is shit , so PR is shitty

The grass looks green here until you realize that all the stuff in the world won't make up for the loss in family ties and sense of connection. There's also a huge threat of layoffs and that will probably continue for a long time. You don't want to be in that boat with a huge student loan to service.

They probably live in a tiny apartment compared to yours

I think the same about my friends in Bangalore, they get to eat the best food, random weekend trips to Goa/ Wayanad/ Gokarna, doing backchodi with friends at 2AM, while still being close to aging parents and after all this you can maintain a king lifestyle with house help and a personal chef. Now, to give a reality check not everyone here is driving a Tesla. Majority of them are financed with huge monthly insurance bill and avg tech guy is still cruising in a 2012 Honda or Toyota while crying to get a date with a white girl. I can go on and on and on but tl;dr life is a trade off, and if you really want to move to US try to get an internal transfer instead of applying for Masters. Happy to chat more about life here in DM.

Try driving a car in bangalore, doesn't matter if it's a Honda or a Tesla they are all the same. At least in the US you can go past 50.

Meta jcnrew Feb 13

No one is crying to get a date here. Stop spreading misinformation.

It’s all superficial but it’s okay. Everyone who comes here just gets through this phase as they find these new things fascinating. Here are few other things that end up on Insta in the first year: capture random homes, sky, sunset, random streets, snow fall, driving time lapses, road trips, fancy airbnb. Yes life is that easy materialistically speak, things which are expensive in India are just affordable if you earn here. But these are non essential, the trouble is with essentials: food, homes, healthcare, child care is just expensive. I think with 46LPA you’re already doing better than many of those Tesla bros.
