For Indian citizens born in India. If you were to pursue Master's in CS purely for the purpose of getting a job and build a career, would you still prefer US given the current immigration challenges under the following assumptions: 1. You have admit from top 20 Canadian univ vs 20-50 US ranking US univ. 2. You are planning to live in the country for a longer period of time - 10+ years, potentially living there forever. 3. Canadian univ is cheaper in tuition I understand the pay and job opportunities are way better in the US, and many Canadians end up moving here for the same reason. However, considering the immigration pain and no improvements that I see in the near future, would you still have come here? TC: $380k, YOE: ~8
Honestly, I will recommend Canada at this point
I am leaning towards that as well, as does the poll results.
I would recommend Canada IF you have worked in the US for a few years .The US is still worth it to get an education, work for 5 years and then move somewhere:Canada is a fine country but not too many jobs .Your actually better of going to Germany or Netherlands.
That is another option we are considering, however, the advantage of going to Canada first is that you can get your citizenship in 3-4 years and then come to US in TN VISA.
I would not base my decisions on what could hypothetically happen after you get citizenship .My recommendation would be Germany or Netherlands. You have a lot of freedom of movement between European countries and way more jobs than Canada.
Get Canada PR before hand. Pay in state tuition fees. Count your 2 years in MS towards fulfilling your Canadian PR requirements. Eligible to apply for Canadian Citizenship in 3 years. 1 year of Processing time. Become a Canadian citizen in 4 years from today with 2 years of MS and 2 years of Work experience. Start working in the US on TN/H1b afterwards. PS: I will ask you for an NFLX referral sometime.
🇨🇦 anytime over 🇺🇸 ..this was not the case 5 years back though...but this is true now
US unless he/she is too desperate to get a GC.
Always choose the greedy algorithm in immigration. Choose US degree and US job and credential. When you're asked to buzz off or when you have to start a family, then you do this optimization. What if Canadian rule changes in the next 3 years? What if Canadian economy continues to decline? What if tech presence continues to be like it is today (near zero)? Megacorp growth outside US will be in India and China.
If I could do it again, I would go to Canada. By the time you graduate from a Canadian university, you will likely have a Canadian green card and won’t be far from a Canadian citizenship. Then you can easily come to use and work with TN or H1B. This is with the mindset that if you want to leave India, get the immigration problem out of the way first. Then you can focus on making money. It’s not worth getting distracted by immigration issues.
I would do the same as well, but just one catch. TN is in limbo right now, with NAFTA about to be replaced with USMCA, but needs congress ratification from all 3 countries
How's this relevant? You're already at Netflix US, right?
