China CYBERATTACK on UK ? WTF
I am currently working as a full time Architectural Designer. Thinking about applying to MS HCDE @ UW as a part time student. If there are any alumni do share some tips on the application as I hear it is quite competitive. I just got reject from their UCD program. #design #ui/ux
Nah the acceptance rate is pretty low.
Transparency: I am a graduate of the program. I do not review applications. I am expressing solely my own opinions. 1. Follow the application guidelines, particularly around the personal statement: https://www.hcde.washington.edu/ms/application/materials#statement They are quite transparent about what they are looking for. 2. You need to have a compelling, truthful narrative exemplifying the traits HCDE calls out in the first paragraph, wrt your relationship to UX or how you are coming to pursue UX. An application to the effect of "I am an architect who wants to break into UX to move my career forward and make more money, and I heard HCDE is a great program in a beautiful campus surrounded by tech companies. But I haven't really done anything heroic, creative, or reflecting personal leadership to break into UX -- or help others wishing to pursue UX" won't make the cut. (not saying that's you, just a hypothetical) Be able to demonstrate how you've *already* applied those traits towards gaining proficiency in UX that differentiate you. Attending the HCDE program should only be the last necessary step of a journey that you've already clearly demonstrated, with triangulated evidence, you're committed to, that you've smashed through brick walls for, and that you're highly invested in. If you need a year to be able to truthfully tell that story in your application, you may want to consider taking that year. 3. Also: try to get recommendation letters that are not generic, but reinforce the attributes called out in their application materials guidance. Again, they are pretty transparent & open about what they are actually looking for.
Thank you!
