Hey all, I’ve primarily worked on internal tools as a UX designer. Not sure if I can include these as case studies in my portfolio, since the tools are not publicly available. Is it allowed to include this work in my portfolio? If so, does anyone have advice on how I can ethically and safely do so? I’ve heard that most designers just redo the designs and talk about the design process high level.
Do you have any other previous work samples that you can make publicly available? If so, you can talk about your internal tooling work in a portfolio presentation and never have to put it on a website. Other alternative is to password protect it.
Unfortunately it’s most of my work experience. Do you have advice for how to talk about the process without revealing any confidential info?
That’s okay. All my work experience has been in designing confidential, internal tools and I have done many interviews with many large, well-known companies. I don’t put any of my work in the public domain. I basically do a portfolio presentation and focus on my problem solving approach and process. When I have to show screens, I focus on the IA and design decisions and obfuscate sensitive information with fake data.
