Bloomberg Pros: - Moving to NYC (I’m in my 20s and single) - Stable company - Visa Sponsorship (Won’t be laid off within the process, but will need to wait) - All-cash comp - WLB Bloomberg Cons: - 3 days in office (I’m currently remote) - Would be tied to Comp while waiting for GC - NYC cost of living is high (similar to current lifestyle would cost me ~6k/mo) - Although offer is great for NG, I have got offers for 230k in August from companies in CA (had to decline for other reasons), so I feel the offer is lower in comparison. - I don’t know if I will land a team I would like. - Downlevel from Senior to Entry Level (I feel I could try for L5 or L4 at other companies when I finish my masters, targeting 250-300k at least) - Relocation budget would not be enough. - My income after taxes and expenses will be lower (currently I live in LATAM) Since I enjoy my current job, have a great manager, amazing WLB and I am fully remote, my intuition says that I should stay where I am. The only motivation to switching to Bloomberg is to live in NYC and the visa sponsorship. Beyond of that I could just become a digital nomad and explore the world. Any thoughts?
Why do you expect a senior offer with less than 1 yoe?
I’m more in the 3 YOE range, and my current role is on the Senior level which matches L4 at Meta and Google. I could apply to L4 roles or wait a bit more for an L5. I’m still a year away from finishing my masters.
how'd you get to the senior level with 1 yoe?
Which state are you currently located?
I do not live in the US. I live in LATAM
How do you get a company in the US to offer you a visa sponsorship?
I spent 3 years at Bloomberg and loved it - I would highly recommend the people at Bloomberg and the bustle of NYC. I was also in your position, accepting a lower offer money wise, but in 3-5 years the exit opportunities for me and my class were in the 300-600k range, so I wouldn't worry too much about 40k difference. Raises at Bloomberg were also generous early, anywhere from 10-20% for at least the first 4 years. Senior has lower raises.
exit to where ?
Many went to hedge funds and trading shops. Median offer was probably 450k for 2-3 yoe. One friend and I went to big tech for around 300-350k
Visa has nothing to do with your yearly increase.
I mean that raises are not fully guaranteed, as far as I understand (I cannot budget on that). And the raises would be over the 160k salary vs waiting a year and starting with a higher comp on an L4 level. How much can I expect on increases at the New Grad offer?
Get your green card and the world is your oyster
20s and single with a good job in NYC is a really good position to be in and a great lifestyle. Bloomberg in NYC is a big step up career wise relative to Autodesk in LATAM. You can worry about amazing WLB later in your career.
@Google Is ADSK not well respected for Eng?
@OP not necessarily, just less so than Bloomberg
Go to Bloomberg, enjoy a no layoff/pip environment working in NYC. Get your green card and then think about whats next.
Op Indian masters grad?
Not Indian
lol indian getting GC 😅
Lot of companies won’t look at you needing sponsorship from LATAM. Being in NYC with visa will help next opportunities and is decent opportunity rn
