Ouch

VMware Serious123 Nov 27, 2017

What's the price for rsu issued to regular employees joined at relatively late stage?

Google nuckchorri OP Nov 27, 2017

50, at least that was the price from late 2015 onwards, if I recall correctly.

Uber Credit Nov 28, 2017

Yes

Qualcomm kqxqx Nov 27, 2017

I thought last time Uber already has over 60 billion valuation. Is this because all the scandals?

Uber 🍳,🌯,πŸ• Nov 27, 2017

no. this is because tender offer.

Hulu isodj28824 Nov 28, 2017

And the fact that Uber doesn’t make a profit? 🦍

Apple Bnhjk56 Nov 27, 2017

I know folks who joined at $48. But they got significantly more RSUs than google or Facebook would have offered. So they still come out ahead if they are able to liquidate at $33 a share

Microsoft Gooooood Nov 27, 2017

Think about the stock price increase at other big companies (G Fb Microsoft Amazon). While Uber valuation has been stagnant and even going down, they all had enjoyed massive increase. In other words, people who joined Uber lost that much (if they joined from big companies).

Microsoft Rsk:)3$?2! Nov 27, 2017

Lol, sure Microsoft

Uber SjII82 Nov 27, 2017

It's a mix of common and preferred so the valuation is going to be a bit fuzzy

Microsoft Gooooood Nov 27, 2017

Looking at recent dismal IPOs by tech companies (ie Cloudera Twillo Nuatanix Mulesoft Blueapron Mongdb), I would slash the price even more if I am from Softbank. With all the endless scandals and some lost share to competitors and no hope for autonomous driving, it is a good time to negotiate to buy at bargain (which may or may not).

Google nuckchorri OP Nov 27, 2017

Don't see how autonomous driving if good for Uber. It makes them lose the network effect.

VMware Cashc0w Nov 27, 2017

Their only long term hope is driverless car otherwise they have fixed cost that will scale along with their business: drivers got to be able to make money individually no matter the scale. It doesn't shrink as the size of business grows. Therefore by nature this is a low margin business

Uber STarly Nov 27, 2017

This is common for tender offers. See Facebook tender offer (6.5B vs their 10B valuation): https://techcrunch.com/2009/07/13/dst-to-buy-up-to-100-million-in-facebook-employee-stock/ 3 years later they IPO'd at 100B.

Uber shANq80 Nov 28, 2017

Good deal for DST

Google wearing Nov 28, 2017

Was the difference in valuation due to the previous investment in preferred shares vs common stock in the latter. What is the situation with Uber. Is SoftBank buying only common stock or even preferred stock?

Pinterest T84dS Nov 27, 2017

Anyone who uses this to throw dirt is a jealous idiot. Most of us in private companies would jump at the opportunity to cash out at a 30% discount. Ben, please let us do this too!

Google nuckchorri OP Nov 27, 2017

Uber and Pinterest are not the same : https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?date=today%205-y&geo=US&q=Pinterest,Uber

Pinterest T84dS Nov 27, 2017

1. Not sure what your point is 2. As our Google trend data falls our user growth increases, go figure

Google nuckchorri OP Nov 28, 2017

Why would they be inversely proportional? Typically it is a good data point to look at for relevance.
