Uber ATG engineers are on the chop board this time?
Rumor? Because Uber ATG could not bring in much revenue yet with clear picture.#layoff To preserve cash, it will be gone with some engineers move to other teams and rest will be let go. Other dept engineers are affected less. Disclaim: insider told me, could not disclose the source.
I remember reading that Dara already wanted to kill ATG in 2018, when they were way behind competitors and one of their cars killed a pedestrian.
They have external funding but yea probably will get a haircut along with everyone else

ATG was built with cheating
That’s a positive for Uber. Their entire business is built on cheating (laws for example). I’m not saying these laws are good or bad though.
When a company commits sin, karma will come. This time virus is the karma - although there is sizable collateral damage.
ATG is funded by various car companies and SoftBank, Uber pays very little and the tech will enable us to operate in a post-self-driving world. Many at Uber rely on atg being our future. They also have extraordinarily high hiring bars even to get an interview with them is an accomplishment, internal xfers from prime->atg require interview, but other way around does not, they get paid extra salary, some of the smartest backend, AI/ML, UI/UX in the industry work there so no I don’t think Dara would risk losing anyone.
I'm not convinced about the high hiring bar. I had an onsite interview at ATG 2 years ago and the questions were LC easy, and they gave me an interview with pretty dubious experience and no referral. The hiring manager told me his entire team had left (presumably in a layoff).
The ATG leadership is a bunch of clowns. Also UI/UX is useless if the tech sucks and car can’t drive itself...
ATG is an R&D division, they’re not expected to bring revenue. I highly doubt the entire division will be let go, but they’ll definitely trim down
