I want to get out of the company echo chamber and ask non-Uber folks what people think of this ad campaign. And let me put some guidelines in before this devolves into people's views on society at large. Given what you know about Uber, do you think this is a smart business decision? Why? https://www.adweek.com/brand-marketing/uber-urges-those-who-tolerate-racism-to-delete-the-app/

Help, my hand is stuck in the kitchen sink
I support the message that racism is bad but I feel like this is just them pandering to their core market. Theres prob a very large overlap between ppl who support BLM and yuppies (ubers core market). So this isn't a very 'brave' thing for them to do. Just them trying to win some brownie points with the ppl they are targeting.
I think strategically it's kinda brilliant, anyone who's saying "hur dur virtue signal" can't see past the fact that all companies are driven by profit motive. By doing this first, they're could almost implicitly position people who don't have Uber on their phone (and maybe only use Lyft) as a group that answered the call of the ad. Now of course "no one's gonna take this seriously and think their black friend who uses Lyft is racist" but it's not about the extremes, we look at aggregate effects and the aggregate effect is that is going to be a lot of edge cases in woke-er communities where people might feel like using Uber is also a signifier that they're an "ally". it's all about strategy, branding and symbolic positioning, imagine if a case study comes out 5 months from now that some KKK town in the midwest ended up exclusively using Lyft or Grubhub...I'll leave you to fill in the blanks. the market share that Uber stands to gain off "wokeness" is non-negligible "Dread it, run from it... wokeness arrives all the same" ~ Danos Khosrowshahi
Racism has been about oppression and exploitation. Uber is just trying to be woke and talk about issues the consumers care about but their business exists because of their exploitation of their drivers. I call BS.
Please explain how they are âexploiting their driversâ
They are capitalizing off of both the legal loophole and the lack of awareness amongst their drivers of a simple fact: When you account for gas and wear and tear on your vehicle as an Uber driver you generally make below minimum wage.
Can do much more than just making a show
Great good job.
Stopped using Uber and lyft since beginning of March and now I use doordash for food delivery
