Dara Khosrowshahi says Uber isn’t considering reductions. Uber laid off more than 6,000 employees in 2020 cost cuts. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-12-02/uber-ceo-says-won-t-cut-jobs-despite-mounting-tech-layoffs
Such lies. When they do cut, "Ooooopsie. I did my math wrong. Damn common core math. I carried a 6 instead of a 1 when doing multiplications."
They(Uber) did announced that they will do layoffs in 2020 before they did layoffs
it was leaked to the press in 2020 and they were forced to announce
Jassy said the same thing at some tech conference a few months ago. He was being interviewed on stage by some lady.
Jassy did bad math.
He was being Jassy (shitty manager)
Uber might be correctly balanced after the 2020 layoffs whereas others have been constantly hiring
Uber kept hiring too. The thing that's saving them is their business is growing. I heard they are capturing doordash market share in food delivery. Although Lyft revenue is increasing, Uber revenue is increasing at a higher pace. I feel it's more about business doing well than hiring.
“I heard they are capturing doordash market share in food delivery.” I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s true - I’ve been using Uber eats more now. It’s more consistent with delivery estimates imo
Trusting a CEO’s word? Ok
lol uber is notorious in doing multiple rounds of layoffs, the culture is quite shit too in certain offices
whens the last time you heard about uber culture, 2017? 😂
i worked there till 2021, and some of my great team mates were laid off, rest of us left soon after, and i feel it was better in 2017
oh shit. that means layoffs tomorrow. “unforeseen macroeconomic conditions”
Uber's CEO will continue to say no layoffs until they day it needs to make cuts to appease shareholders.
Waiting for activist investor comes along and swings their weight around demanding layoffs
Uber’s headcount is roughly back to what it was right before pandemic started, but revenue is double what it was then. They didn’t double their headcount over past 2 years like some pandemic darlings.
Their opex to revenue ratio is just as bad as meta pre-layoffs, and they lost money all through the pandemic. They were really just that bloated pre-pandemic
Damn that's bold I'm happy for Uber folks, the uncertainty here has been demotivating and bad for many. You hopefully don't have to deal with that.
They literally say they won't when they're about to
