I see some suicidal or desperate engs considering Uber offers. Some posts show big TC numbers, $1M+/ 4 yrs. **PLEASE, please ask yourself this before accepting your offer: ** What is your big package worth, if you get layed off tomorow? Last week’s Uber terminated more staff and closed its downtown office in LA: https://www.latimes.com/business/technology/story/2020-02-18/uber-shuts-down-its-downtown-la-customer-support-office #uberlayoffs
It’s a roulette: be my guest and gamble with your career. I have seen the top performers let go. There is a lot of rumor about the product ops (eng and pms) and marketing being next. Our incompetent leadership lies about the ongoing cuts, pretending like nothing is happening..
If you get laid off, you just find another company. What's the problem?
Can confirm OP is DoorDash employee
The opportunity cost is the problem. Re-doing 100+ LC problems and going thru more interviews is a problem. H1B is a problem. And, If the recession hits in the next six months you are permanently fked, correct?
So, don't waste your time on blind and start leetcoding.
Now is a great time to join, if they succeed in profitability joining now is ideal.
lol same stories - when was it bad to join Uber ??? When there was harassment, people wanted to join because there will be action taken, when stock was rising people wanted to join, when layoffs happening people want to join, when stock falling people wanted to join. Ponzi scheme is exactly like this, it always looks good to join anytime.
It would have been bad to join around 2 years pre ipo till about 6 months ago.
Op just jealous of your tc. He probably joined 2016 and got screwed on tc hoping Uber will pay him more to retain him if no one joins.
This is promo results week. It’s common to see such threads around this time.
Pardon my aggressive and uneducated Uber colleagues. The stories of our toxic culture are true, as evidenced by my colleagues’ responses :( Read the LA Times article for more info on the recent wave of layoffs ^
You call this toxic. I call this shitting on the guy sabotaging his own company.
Any business model that relies on the general good behavior of a large and relatively desperate group of people trying to earn money is ultimately unwise. There are exceptions, but there aren't enough of them to mitigate the risk.
My God. You really hit the nail on the head with that.
Have you heard of Amazon flex? What’s the difference?
Any teams safe? I keep getting recruiters reaching out
