Got an offer from Uber; well, sort of. Turns out they were interviewing me for L5A but with my experience it should have been L5B. Their interview panel for L5A cannot evaluate for an L5B candidate, it seems, so they asked me if I was willing to go through another full day loop. I had other strong Staff level offers already so there was no real motivation to do another full loop. I was mentally exhausted. I asked how high they would be willing to go for their offer if I agree to the L5A role. They said max TC of 500K. Did not get to breakdown etc since my other offers were significantly higher. YOE: 12 Current TC: 488K #engineering #software #swe #uber
Is this a sharing post or do you have a question, want our thoughts on if you should take it etc?
I got to understand the current market for SWE roles from people posting their offers so decided to do that same. Not a question.
I've found the same, thanks for sharing. Sounds like you have some other great offers, hope there's one you're going to be really happy with. Best of luck with the career change, it's a big deal!
If you have other strong staff offer, why bother?
Move seems very lateral. 5A -> 5B will take you a couple years. How far are you from the next promo at Amazon? Also, staff is level 6 here, so you should be going for that. 5B payrate would already be an upgrade to your current, but 6 would be a no brainer.
Take the staff offer
This is weird. I saw people getting paid like $600,000 as 5a. $500,000 is definitely not enough.
What are your other offers?
I have an interview with Uber Eats team next week. Can you please tell me what I can expect in my interview rounds and how to best prepare. I can message you personally here. Let me know, it would be really helpful.
Mostly traditional leetcode problems. I had two problems that used graph theory bfs and Dijkstra traversal.
Thank you for sharing this.
If you already have other offers and L5A offer is much below than those, then i guess you could try for another full loop given how much extra L5B can fetch you
I certainly could have. But this was the last interview I did after some gruelling weeks of preparation and full day interview loops so I was mentally not motivated for another round when offers from the others loops started to come by then.
