1 vs 5 Million - no lifestyle change
I just got this offer from Uber for SEII, and wanted to get the community's thoughts. YoE: 4 years Base: 147k Annual cash bonus: 13.5k Annual RSU refresher: 52.5k 320k RSU vesting over 4 years at current 409a valuation. No competing offers yet, so not sure how much upside I'd have in negotiation. Have people had any success getting higher offers without a competing offer?
Seems low. How's TC/yr is ~293K? Don't include the refresher. Also, refreshers vest over the next four years after the first year.
The recruiter said that the annual refresher vests monthly over 3 years starting immediately upon grant. Maybe someone from Uber can confirm? In either case, I have no idea how to roll the annual refresher into an annual total comp estimate, so I edited that off the OP. ~293K was the annual comp estimate on the offer sheet, but I figure recruiters will always try to inflate the numbers wherever possible.
That’s correct, it’s over 3 years monthly
That's a great offer. If you believe in Uber, that's at least 640k worth of RSU.
OP, what was the interview like?
Seems low considering the risk of paper money.
With 4 years of experience, seems like a good offer and align with recent SE-2
I have a question: please correct me if my understanding is wrong but Uber is all paper money for RSU with a potential of IPO but then a locking period. Until then (could be 6 months or 2 years ) this individual will have approx $160k in hand. Is this correct or can he sell his pre-ipo in private market?
Seems about there. My recruiter at Uber told me they are now using a comp committee so he can’t change the offer much, best he can do is give higher signing bonus. My offer for same level is about 10k higher for base, but my yoe is 6. Yes it’s paper money. But Uber has huge potential and don’t doubt the paper money will be huge real money soon. You aren’t going to get this much stock money at any fang companies.
Feels low. My lyft offer was 185 base 500 RSU and 20K sign on. I have close to 5 yoe. Uber might be low balling you there should be room for more. Get competing offers immediately.
Yea but lyft isnt gonna ipo anytime soon?
And do you have a crystal ball that says Uber will ipo for sure next year? RSU from startups are paper money and if there is a recession they will push their ipo. Better to get paid a good base or get a lot of stocks. His base is low I doubt they will give more RSUs I would have got a low ball offer from lyft as well. I had 3 competing offers and I was willing to walk away.
How was your interview performance? I just interviewed at uber for sde II as well and waiting for my offer as the recruiter informed me they are preparing it. My yoe is 1.5 so will probably be lower than yours
That's a great offer for SE2
