Is it possible for the driver to see passenger's destination before the ride is accepted ?
No they can't see it. If the driver calls you to ask where you're headed - feel free to remind them that they are violating terms of service by asking. It sounds harsh, but I've had them cancel trips on me numerous times because they didn't view my destination as worth driving to.
What's the deal with drivers calling after they've accepted the ride to ask what my destination is?
Sometimes drivers only want to take a long drive, sometimes they don't want to drive to certain cities. It can be very discriminatory on the part of the driver and uber attempts to correct for this by not showing the info to the driver. The worst ones will make the effort to call the rider in an attempt get their questions answer and be able to discriminate as the choose.
Interesting.. I always assumed the driver did know before accepting.
I’m curious why you would think that? Seems counter intuitive to me.
One time I waited 10 mins for a pool, and then the driver cancelled the ride after I got in the car saying it's too far and he can't go there. Out of desperation I called an UberX, same driver accepted and gave me the ride. Lol.
The driver can see how long the trip is before accepting.
That’s not true, they can’t, it defeats the whole marketplace. For really long trips, like 3 hours, we show a warning.
Wow, 2 Uber ppl telling different stories :)
Well it sometimes really sucks to drive 10 minutes only to pick up a lazy fuck which does not want to walk two city blocks literally. Hence the question.
There is a minimum fare plus time and distance. So if you're a lazy fuck who wants to spend $10 to travel 2 blocks then I guess why shouldn't you be allowed to? Driver pay also includes time and distance traveled to pickup now, I think.
I am not a driver, but I Uber a lot, and this is the most common complaint I keep hearing from drivers. They drive a lot to pick up and sometimes the destination is so close that the GPS does not even see it as a different point on the map. One dude was so pissed off he was barely holding himself not to scream. He just dropped a lady which called an Uber just to cross the street. One lane each way, with pedestrian traffic lights on both ends.
Yeah, some drivers have a hack to do that. After they get the dispatch, they turn on airplane mode on their phone and then start the trip, this tells their navigation where the rider is going, then they turn the airplane mode off. An Uber driver told me the hack a few months ago.
I’m guessing youre meaning to ask can they see the destination before the ride is accepted?
Exactly
