Uber commute in Bay Area

When will Uber make commute easier and cheaper in Bay Area. Public transportation is not keeping up with the growth.

Facebook EquallyBad Feb 11, 2017

Uber is a bad replacement for proper mass transit.

Square SUyC68 Feb 13, 2017

Uber is actually part of the reason roads and parking are conjusted. cars would be in garages or parked when not in use. now that Uber is competitive with transit, there are more cars (Ubers) on the road + there are a lot of extra driving mileage from going to pickups (this would be 0 with your own car) or idle driving looking for pickups that wouldn't have existed before.

Uber commute

Microsoft HesDeadJim Feb 11, 2017

Some folks I know use Uber but just for short commutes. It's not practical for long 40 minute commutes. When Uber has a fleet of buses running planned transportation lines like the city does, maybe we can talk. One far off day these buses may be autonomous, but to make an impact now, let's get a thousand more buses on the road.

Sounds very forward looking. Reminds me when Microsoft thought tablets were a losing proposition.

Uber should run buses to the Silicon Valley from/to Cities that are more than 40 miles away. The Apple (or any other tech company) buses don't come to where I live, and I would gladly pay so I don't have to be stuck in traffic 3hrs+ in traffic each day.

Uber GTR Feb 12, 2017

Why should uber run it ? You have VTA - the problem is that you will never get a bus that takes you and doesn't stop anywhere and directly reaches destination. If it stops at 20 places then 40 mile commute will be 2.5 hours one way - will you take it ?

Apple pixe Feb 12, 2017

Uber doesn't have to do anything, but it would be a good idea and probably a good business opportunity. There are no buses from my location to Cupertino whatsoever (I live in Contra Costa County), and you are right, I wouldn't take a bus that would make my commute so ridiculously long. My commute is 55 miles by the way.

We need better BART and better public infrastructure - even if you make uber very cheap you will have so much traffic that it will kill the roads. BART is very inefficient and has uselsss management - for example the warm springs station in fremont was supposed to open in oct 2014 and it's still not open - nobody knows the date now - our infra. Is crumbling
