I recently got an offer from Uber. It’s an okay salary but wanted to get the tea from people who worked or works at Uber. What’s the culture, career progression, promotion, flexibility to change job family, etc? Is Uber doing well in this economy? I need real advice and wisdom. The salary is 84,300 which isn’t competitive. Cash bonus 8500. The new hire equity is 26,100. The benefits sounds nice tho with relocation assistance, Uber credits.
Abysmal wlb. Almost non existent. 50 hrs/week is a baseline in engg. Good pay. Decent Benefits. Culture is Amazonian. 6% pip every year that started last year and is going to be the theme going forward. Teams can be toxic and you need to watch out for yourself. Finally achieved profitability and stocks are trending upwards. Management is fairly hit or miss and are typically not open to accepting feedback/making changes. US headcount is expected to be flat for the foreseeable future, so expect a lot of late night and early morning meetings with India.
What is an okay salary? Give us a breakdown
I was really looking for a 90K base salary and higher and I updated my description and it’s not that competitive but the benefits are nice.
Location matters. If Bay Area then I don’t know how you will survive.
What role and level is this for?
Forget family. For promotion and appraisals, get into the hunger games.
What’s the role and level? location? I think it’s a good place to work, but like any big company, you’re always going to want to stand out if you want promotions, recognition, etc. so meaning you’ll work hard but also be sure to network
Role is for financial risk mgmt (risk related) and analyst level and NYC location. I just worry about being able to transfer internally and learn new skills beyond my scope.

Why is our country owned by Israel? I don't want my tax dollars fund genocide. How can we stop this nonsense?
I’ve enjoyed my time at Uber. Work life balance is reasonable, and I like the work I do. Uber didn’t do any company wide layoffs in the last 2 years when everyone was doing it, and the stock price has gone up recently. Will this last? I don’t know. But it’s pretty good right now and I’m grateful.
