Hello, Blind. So I've just passed the technical phone screen for Uber, and I'm being told that headcount is only in SF (Mobility team). When I originally applied, I'm pretty sure the role was remote-eligible as well. Anyway, I'm in NYC and want to stay. I asked the recruiter if I can interview with different teams, but she just told me again that only SF has headcount. Judging by the website, it looks like at the very least, Eats has open Android roles in NYC, one of which is even remote-eligible. Do I have any options here? Can I somehow land an onsite with NY-based teams? YOE: 3 TC: Zilch #android #swe #nyc #uber
Just let your recruiter know your location restrictions. There’s plenty of NYC specific roles, and some are SF only based. It’s team specific, and flexibility may also depend on seniority and how willing they are to miss out on you. If you’re 3 yoe, it’s L3/L4, and you probably aren’t going to have much leverage. But, definitely ask the recruiter!
I'm also in the same boat. Interview about two weeks ago for a mobile position in NYC. Cleared the phone screen but stuck due to head count. Was given Seattle or SF as options but I want to stay.
late reply sorry but what kinds of questions did they ask in the screen?
I have an upcoming onsite for uber as well, what LLD did they ask and system design design round?
I haven't given the onsite. I'm being told I can wait for potential NYC headcount in the future, so I might do that. I don't know if you're a mobile dev, but from what I understand, system design is mobile-centric. You can probably find posts on Blind giving some detail. Look up "weeeBox" on GitHub for prep, especially if you're a senior candidate or above.
Looking for nyc too, but i heard if you interview your offer is good for a year anywhere
