"Meanwhile, the company is lifting the hiring freeze on the product and engineering teams that has been in effect since early August, according to the source." why would they layoff people and then immediately look to hire?
Hire cheaper new grads?
Same here
Engineering is always hiring. 435 people is just cutting fat - Iโm guessing low performers and non-core products
Lol an Uber recruiter literally emailed me today asking if I wanna apply to SWE positions smh. I have 3.5 YOE.
They are hiring in Amsterdam.. cheaper and less entitled than stuck up west coast college grads
Critical roles in US lifted & continued expansion outside of US. Layoffs were largely based in US, so...yeah, only hire for critical.
Most west cost tech VPs are libs and are in a panic over a fake recession so they are all holding costs. Walmart has a huge freeze now also and even backfill may scrapped... TDS
The layoffs in my org have been almost all managers and TLMs. They are flattening the org structure to reduce the excessive management and process overhead. Tough day.
Makes perfect sense tbh
Layoff experienced and high TC engineer and hire cheap new grads.
Experienced engineers are 10x more valuable than cheap new grads and only costs 2/3x. Only idiots would do such a thing.
Tell Uber CEO that.
