#tech I recently got an Uber offer in the payments team. With the impending recession and possible layoffs in future, is it a good time to move to Uber? I have heard a lot about layoffs in Uber in last few years, but I don't have data on how many times engineering teams were impacted due to layoffs. Does anyone think Engineering team especially the payments team be impacted by the recession? Amazon TC: 260k Uber TC: 340k Should I join Uber or stay at Amazon?
Amazon wouldn’t layoff if a recession happen?
You should worry not just a layoff at Amazon
Is Amazon layoffs worse than Uber?
Do you get severance for layoff?
Yes. Why not?
Is that Uber L4 offer? OP Go Uber
How often does engineering teams layoff employees who recently joined?
As with anything it depends. The first round is generally an opportunity to get rid of underperformers (individuals and teams). If they have to cut deeper than that, it can make sense to drop new hires.
Last time layoffs happened in 2020, Amazon has hired and fired more people that that in last 1 month. Don’t worry, I too moved from Amazon and had same questions. PS: Don’t burn the bridges when leaving Amazon

aquihires that are redundant, sure. engineers will find a place here, unless they’re bad
Is it enough tc to make that switch? What’s your 2023 TCT projection
OP is that L4 coz 350k seems lower
Yes it's L4
What if this was amazon vs DoorDash?
Similar boat. Different company. Amazon is trying to lock us with the recession fear 😂😂
Which company offer do you have?
Robinhood 😂😂 and Opendoor . I don’t know whether to laugh or cry after seeing yesterday’s news
