Hi all, I have an L4 offer from Uber for ~$350k. I heard this was top of band offer from recruiter? My concerns are: 1. the future of Uber seems uncertain, ive heard lots of people leaving 2. Currently L4 at Amazon, manager promising L5 promo in the next few quarters. I’ve been here 2 yrs already so not sure whats gonna happen really 3. I have 6 yoe but currently an L4 :( but thinking i should still shoot for senior? Context: I had several manager switches on my team. Which is why i think my promo kept getting delayed, but im kind of sick of waiting. Its also uncertain if itll even happen imo. Team: Amazon Alexa YOE: 6 TC: 🥜🥜 What do you guys think?
So let me get this straight, you are a junior at Amazon got a mid level role at Uber, and now wondering if you should try and reroll for a hope for senior, where exactly? The Uber Offer is higher than Amazon's avg senior band, on par with G. Just go to Uber do well, and promo to senior, or interview else where later.
Im not sure if I would consider myself a junior. I understand L4 is the starting engineering level but with 6 yoe i can keep up just fine with the L5s on my team. I think I just got shit luck with manager attrition and that affecting my promo. But i hear what you’re saying. I guess I just felt at 6 yoe i should be shooting for senior given all the offers I’ve seen on blind. I also would agree with your analysis on pay bands
Try for l5 at that yoe. I had uber l4 when they interviewed for l5a Ask for l5 if not then move on and try harder. Truest me level matters
Not true, pay matters equally, also, Amazon L4 to Uber L5a is not easy.

Number of years experience does not matter. I know many teams at Amazon have very heavy oncall workloads, ops skill is a very tiny part of SDE skill set.
Yeah I agree. I have seen many candidates from Amazon who don't get the projects to showcase their technical skills. The reason you didn't get an senior offer is not because of interviews alone. Current role and exposure also matters a lot.

Around $310k. Have not negotiated yet. From levels.fyi it seems it can go up to $350k
If you think you can keep up with the newly promoted sde3 in Amazon, in term of leading team as well as system design and coding, you can try senior interviews. But if you feel you haven’t reached that level yet, mid level at Uber is already quite good. Yoe is not everything. You ability, knowledge, skill and experience with leader role is.
