I'm wondering at how stack ranking works at Uber. I'm looking at joining. Does this happen there? Where I work there is no forced bell curve. You only get a poor rating if you didn't meet your goals or didn't do your work. I don't know anyone personally getting these and majority of people get meets expectations. I've always been a top performer but I still fear the stories about rank and yank companies so I'd like to learn more about how this works.
There's no forced curve. Everyone gets a score between 0 and 2. 1.0 gets you the target bonus mentioned by the recruiter. Less than 1 means you need to improve, but there's no quota on the number here. Average must be 1.2 at a certain org size. They're talking about increasing the max above 2 but it's not been announced. Getting a 2 is practically unheard of because you have to pull many others down to 1.0 to meet the 1.2 average.
Thank you for the information! Makes me feel relieved it's closer to what I'm used to.
