Uber vs Google Offer
Hi, I’ve recently got offer from Google at L4 and Uber eats for senior software engineer. I’d like to work on consumer space product so eats seems to be more attractive regarding projects. However google is google at the end of day and so many potentially interesting projects inside. Also personally value career growth more than wlb. Google TC: 290k + 20k signon Uber TC: 400K + 70k(2yr) sign on Appreciate insights from both sides, especially how Uber/eats will play out in post-covid era. Current TC: 270k #swe
Lol looks like an easy decision from numbers. Depends on team but I do think Uber has some upside after COVID. My friends at Uber are confident about the profitability by EOY 2021.

You're higher leveled at Uber and will make a lot more. I'd suggest trying to get G to give you a L5 offer, which can come much closer to Ubers. Otherwise, the higher level at Uber is probably better career wise.
Thanks for the advice! I think unfortunately google has this tradition to lowball non-flag engineers regardless of its interview performance. I did well at interview but HR basically came back to me saying my yoe doesn’t meet l5 bar blabla. But yeah I will definitely try to negotiate more.

IKR.. it’s mainly due to the fact that a lot non-flagish ppl would die for going into gg hence this lowball tradition..
4 yoe for L4 isn't a downlevel.
So google only gave you 20k more than current tc. It’s a no brainer. Promo at big companies are pain in the ass so don’t take down leveled offers

Not sure about that. Eats is big with tons of teams, every team can have very different cultures

4.. I guess that doesn’t meet the Google’s external L5 hiring bar. FB basically said same to me and they don’t even let me interview for e5 without 5yoe ;). Appreciate Google actually gave me a chance haha

Take Uber L5. Interview again at G in 1-2 years and G will likely get you L5.
